media studies so far

Year 12 Media Studies so far.........

So far in media studies we have been studying textual analysis, representation, narrative structure and textual references. we have been analyzing film's, Tv and music video's.

The film's we have watched are "i still know what you did last summer" "urban legend" and "alien". These are all in the horror genre, we listed the typical features of this genre such as anti-climax's, the way the weather effect's the scene and also the way music effect's the build up of scenes as well as many other things. I enjoyed this as it makes me view film's slightly differently, although now i do find the horror genre a bit more predictable than i already did. The music video's we watched were a "Girls Aloud" video and also a "Speedway" video, in these we analyzed the way females are viewed differently with different types of music, for example in the "Speedway" video the female lead singer stands tall with not alot of movement, looking powerful and dominant, where as in the "Girls Aloud" video the girls look a bit more safisticatedly dressed and also a bit vunerablel. The Tv piece we watched was an episode of "Spaced", we noticed the textual references in it as it mention's in some way or another films such as "Scooby doo" "X-files" and "Terminator 2" this was also helpful as i have recently noticed this alot more in the things i watch, especially in the comedy genre.
